It seems unfathomable that we came so close to never having Final Fantasy as the iconic franchise it has become. A cavalcade of spoilers follows, as well, so please be warned. The game's cast includes fan-favorite characters like Seifer, Zell, Rinoa, and memorable main protagonist Squall Leonhart, all of whom add a human element to the game's cosmic story. Between the personal journeys of these characters, the game's epic spacetime scope, and the daunting villains, this game's story is firmly stuck in fans' minds. Following the blending of technology and magic seen in the settings of the series' last several games, Final Fantasy IX returns to traditional fantasy.
